Refreshing the Well – A journey of transformation.

Update from David Blacklock Interim Chief Executive

I realise that I’ve been quiet for way too long, those of you the know me will think this is very unusual, sorry about that… I’ve had quite a bit to be getting on with (understatement of the year).

The trial and tribulations of The Well Communities have taken up way too much air time for my liking, that’s why myself and our amazing staff team have been keeping our heads down and doing what we do best… helping people recover.

There’s a great deal of transformation needed and thankfully we are getting on with the job in hand. I’m supported by amazing people who give their heart and sole to what really matters.

So, what have we been working on:

  • ·        Boring stuff like improving systems and processes, that help us run an efficient organisation

  • Under the expert guidance of our Head of Estates Richard, a seasoned property developer, we are carrying out a whole scale renovation of our property portfolio, the first house will be completed in the next week or so … watch out for pictures… and improvement work on properties in all other areas, Carlisle, Barrow, and Kendal, with exciting developments coming in Morecambe. New windows, render, bathrooms, kitchens, drains, heating. I only wish we could work faster, I want to feel proud of our properties, they should be a place for people to heal and recover safely.

  • With the help of specific funding, we are also improving our Hubs, giving staff and community members the highest quality places to work together.

  • We are co-producing a new strategy for the organisation, helping everyone to be clear about where we are heading. It’s bold, brassy and full of ambition. It also recognises the need for the organisation to recover following difficult times.

  • Our exciting training plan for staff is rolling out, building on their strengths and supporting people to really realise all that they are capable of.

  • We have introduced a range of new roles to the organisation, including our wonderful HR manager Emma-Anne, whose making sure we provide the very best support to staff, our talented bid writing manager Jess, whose helping to keep the essential funding rolling in to support our community members recovery, and our amazing software developer Bolu, who’s helping us join the 21st century.

There is of course a great deal more to be done.

So a huge thanks to everyone whose giving us their support, we really have been bowled over, how lucky are we to know that so many organisations, professional and members of the public have our backs. WATCH THIS SPACE… exciting plans are in development.
